Create a custom book description field for detailed overviews. Add rich content to engage readers and boost SEO on your author website.
Adding a detailed book description to your author website is a great way to engage readers and improve your site’s SEO. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to create a custom Book Description field using the WYSIWYG editor in Advanced Custom Fields (ACF). This field lets you include an expanded, well-formatted book overview, rich with relevant keywords and tropes, to complement your shorter book blurbs. By implementing this feature, you can provide visitors with all the information they need to decide on their next read.
If you are back at the WordPRess admin dashboard click on ACF then Field Group and edit the Books Field Group. Add a new field.
We are using the WYSIWYG editor to ensure that line and paragraph breaks used in the long description are displayed correctly on the post when viewed by a visitor.
I’m going to make this field required so I can’t forget to fill it in before posting.
Save changes.
When I scroll down the updated meta box in the Adventure Danger Book post I have a full text editor in the book description field. When I paste in the Book Description text from my Google Doc it keeps all the formatting.
I’ll save the draft to capture the update.
This lesson showed you how to add a custom Book Description field using ACF’s WYSIWYG editor, enabling you to include detailed and well-formatted book overviews on your author website. By combining a short blurb in the post excerpt with a rich, keyword-enhanced description, you improve reader engagement and boost your site’s SEO performance.
