Add an Extract to Your Books Template

Add a dynamic book extract section to engage readers, showcase your writing, and guide them toward action with a compelling CTA button.

Last Updated: 10 December 2024

Introduction

In this lesson, you’ll discover how to integrate a dedicated book extract section into your Breakdance-powered author website. By mapping custom fields to preset elements, you’ll present a captivating preview that encourages readers to delve deeper into your work. As visitors immerse themselves in your writing, you’ll guide them toward meaningful next steps—such as subscribing, buying your book, or exploring additional titles. This strategic setup not only enhances user engagement but also strengthens SEO, ultimately supporting your growth as an author.

Add a Book Extract Section

  • Add a new section at the bottom of the template
  • This section is going to encourage long form reading so I’ll use the Slim Section Preset
  • Add a Post Title element
  • Change the tag to H3
  • Add another heading element
  • Map this new heading element to Books Field Group – Book Extract – Book Extract Title custom field
  • Change the heading tag to H4
  • Add a text element
  • Map this text element to the Books Field Group – Book Extract – Book Extract Body custom field
  • Add 3 rem of spacing to the bottom of the Book Extract Body Text Element

Add the Call to Action Button

Next we are going to add a button and map it to the Book Extract Button’s call to action custom fields. When we get visitors who have read this far they have a high likelihood of converting into a subscriber, paying reader or whatever your desired call to action may be.

Anyone who has read and enjoyed your extract is going to hit that button and take action.

As Adventure Danger is the book in a free-first-in-series strategy I want that call to action button to take the visitor to the signup page.

  • Add a button
  • Map the button text to the Book Extract Button Text custom field. Again this is not the most exciting naming convention but makes setting up a little easier.
  • Map the buttons link to the Book Extract Button URL custom field
  • Style the button as a Primary Button
  • Click Save.

Summary

You’ve successfully created a dynamic book extract section, mapped key custom fields, and styled it for a professional, reader-focused presentation. By highlighting a compelling excerpt and adding a clear, purposeful call-to-action button, you improve user engagement, increase conversion opportunities, and boost your website’s SEO performance. This approach ensures that potential readers experience your writing’s impact first hand and are more likely to take the desired next steps.
