Add Reader Reviews to Your Author Website Book Pages

Displaying reader reviews on your book pages is a powerful way to boost credibility and encourage visitors to pick up your titles. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to create custom fields for reader reviews using the Group field type in Advanced Custom Fields (ACF). By showcasing star ratings, review titles, and detailed feedback, you can provide potential readers with the social proof they need to make a purchase. This feature adds authenticity and engagement to your author website while maintaining a clean, professional layout.

Add the Reader Reviews Group Custom Field

Go back and edit the Books Field Group inside ACF and add a new field.

General Settings

  • Set the field type to Group
  • The field label is Reader Reviews 1
  • Accept the default field name
  • Under validation set to required

Reader Star Rating Subfield

  • Add a subfield to the group
  • Field type is number
  • Field label is Reader Star Rating
  • Default value is 5
  • Under validation set min value to 1
  • Set max value to 5
  • In presentation Step Size is 0.1

Review Title Subfield

  • Add another subfield to the group field
  • This new Field type is text
  • Field label is Review Title
  • Accept the default field name
  • Close and add field

Review Body Subfield

  • Field type is TEXT AREA
  • Field label is Review Body
  • Accept the default field name
  • Close and add field

Reviewer Name subfield

  • Field type is text
  • Field label is Reviewer Name
  • Accept the default field name
  • Save changes

Duplicate the Reader Reviews Group

Just like we did with the Other Retailer buttons we are going to duplicate the Reader Reviews Group to avoid having to manually recreate everything two more times.

  • Hover over the Reader Reviews 1 custom field
  • Click on Duplicate
  • Hover over the newly created Reader Reviews 2
  • Duplicate
  • Save Changes

Update Book Post

With all these new field we can go and add some test reviews to our Adventure Danger post and save the draft.
