In this lesson, learn how to create and associate custom taxonomies in WordPress to better organise books for authors. Enhance book discoverability for readers and search engines.
Organising your books into series is an essential feature for any author with multiple titles. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to create and associate a custom Series taxonomy with your Books Custom Post Type in WordPress. Using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), this process allows you to clearly group books by series, improve site navigation, and help readers find their next favourite read. Whether you write gripping thrillers or cosy mysteries, this step ensures your author website is user-friendly and professional.
Next, I’m going to Register SERIES as a new Taxonomy. I’ll step through this a bit quicker this time as the steps are the same as for GENRE.
Once the taxonomy is saved WordPress will take a few seconds to refresh the display.
Hover over the BOOKS icon in the admin sidebar and the new SERIES menu item will display.
I’ll click on SERIES and add both of Dirk’s series to the website.
I’ll edit the Adventure Danger Book Post, add the Dylan Danger series name to the book and save the draft.
This lesson covered the creation and association of a custom Series taxonomy with your Books Custom Post Type in WordPress. By grouping books into series, you enhance website navigation and reader experience, making it easier for visitors to explore your works. Using ACF, the process is quick and flexible, adapting to any author’s needs. This feature not only organises your site but also ensures that your books are presented in a clear and engaging manner for your audience.
